Makerspace Program Coordinator

Lucinda Reese

Hello families! My name is Lucinda Reese, a native Texan, and mom of two young men, and a fun fact about me is I'm also a certified Birth Doula, and still teaching parenting classes to teen moms in my free time!

I'm currently serving in the role of Club Director at Career Academy Boys & Girls Club. Although I love the time I've spent with our families, and teens at Career Academy Club, I will be transitioning into a new role within Boys & Girls Clubs over the next few months. Currently spending my mornings teaching STEM, I will officially be stepping in the role of Makerspace Program Coordinator in December 2023. In this extremely exciting brand new role for our clubs in St. Joseph county, I will oversee the new Makerspace labs that serve our youth at Success Academy @ Boys & Girls Club, Portage School of Leaders. In addition to these two onsite innovative labs, I will also help with planning and the implementation of our super cool Mobile Makerspace that will now bring the makerspace experience to all of our other clubs in the near future!

To share a little bit more of my background, I've had the privilege of working with youth and families in education, for more than 25 years, and taught Career & College Readiness at Purdue Polytechnic and Career Academy High Schools. I started my journey with Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph as the Education Coordinator, back in 2006, and over the years I've had the pleasure of teaching STEM, Spanish Club, Immersion Science, Smart Girls, and coaching our BGC underwater robotics teams. Although our BGC team was the youngest to ever compete in the 2011 MATE Underwater Robotics Competition in Chicago, they took first place! Working for the club over the years also allowed me an opportunity through The JASON Project, where myself and two of our club teens had the amazing opportunity to travel to Crete, Greece, then sailing aboard the ship, E/V Nautilus, through the Mediterranean Ocean, to experience underwater robotics explorations up close and personal! I truly believe any child who attends club will be inspired and part of a community of mentors.

If you see me around our new schools, please say hello!
