These programs encourage youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.
Digital Arts Suite and Festivals
Club Tech's Digital Arts Suite teaches members ages 6 to 18 how to create computer-generated art. In each of the five tutorials (Web Tech, Design Tech, Photo Tech, Music Tech and Movie Tech), members advance through three levels of animated lessons online at www.myclubmylife.com
and participate in instructor-led group activities. Club member ages 10 to 18 are invited to submit their artwork to the annual Club Tech Digital Arts Festivals, which celebrate Club members' creativity in Web design, graphic design, photo illustration, music composition and film production/screenplay writing. The Club Tech Digital Arts Suite and Festivals are components of a partnership between Boys & Girls Clubs of America, founding partner Microsoft and Best Buy Children's Foundation to equip America's youth with essential digital literacy skills.
ImageMakers: National Photography Program
View the 2007 ImageMakers National Photography Exhibit Virtual Gallery . Funded by the Circuit City Foundation, this comprehensive photography program encourages girls and boys to learn and practice photography, expressing themselves in creative and innovative ways. The national initiative delivers a state-of-the-art photography curriculum, provides photographic resources and opportunities for Club members to compete on a national level. ImageMakers provides local, regional and national recognition through an annual photography contest. Winning photos will be displayed nationwide at museums as well as at BGCA's annual National Conference.
MusicMakers
This year-round program, developed in collaboration with NAMM, the International Music Products Assocation, encourages Club members ages 6 to 18 to have fun exploring music making and learning to play drums and guitar. Clubs provide step-by-step activities for drums and guitar in beginner, intermediate and advanced skill levels. Funded by NAMM.

The National Fine Arts Exhibit encourages creativity through a variety of media. The exhibit is made up of local, regional and national exhibits created by members of Boys & Girls Clubs. Young people are encouraged to create artwork in any of the following categories: monochromatic drawing, multicolored drawing, pastels, water color, oil or acrylic, print making, mixed media, collage and sculpture. Artwork selected through a national competition is displayed at BGCA's annual National Conference.
The acrylic to the right, titled The Hidden Horse, was created by Cassandra Stuart, age 10. Cassandra is a member of the O.C. Carmichael, Jr Youth Center branch of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County.
Our Clubs will be participating in the National Fine Arts Exhibit through the kindness and spirit of Wells Fargo Bank.

Boys & Girls Clubs Evolution: Members Making the Grade

Learning Across the World: Boys & Girls Clubs Members Awarded Two-Year Internships in Oceanography
Clubs members Devyn Jackson, age 14, and Tashawn Reese, age 16, were two of nine students selected from hundreds of international applicants for JASON’s National Argonaut program. During their two-year oceanography internship with The JASON Project — an independent 501(c)3 operated in association with National Geographic Society — Devyn and Tashawn will apply and expand the knowledge they have gained through their Immersion Learning experiences at the Club.

JANUARY IS NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH!
Last week Boys & Girls Club President & CEO Bruce Greenberg participated in a lively discussion about mentoring on WNIT's Economic Outlook. Bruce was joined by Dr. Gina Shropshire and Craig Horvath, Chair and Vice-chair of the Dream Team mentoring program for the South Bend Community School Corporation. Hosted by Phil D'Amico, the program underscores the positive impact mentoring has on the social, educational, and emotional development of children, particularly those from at-risk environments.
